Jobing Description
Invest in Indiana's future. Teach English.
The Challenge: On the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) in 2011, Indiana's public school students who were eligible for free/reduced-price school lunch, an indicator of low family income, had an average reading score that was 22 points lower than students who were not eligible for free/reduced-price school lunch.
The Opportunity: Bring your English skills into the classroom and help close this achievement gap. Research shows that teachers are the greatest factor in student success, regardless of other school-based factors.
Indianapolis Teaching Fellows teach English at the secondary level (6-12) in general and special education settings.

- Specialized summer training that includes a student teaching component, during which Fellows receive hands-on training and coaching on effective teaching strategies
- Ongoing professional development through ITF, Marian University and employer
- Receiving a $5,550 AmeriCorps Education Award after successful completion of their first year that can be used to cover certification costs or other qualified federal loans (pending approval)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (conferred by June 2012)
- Undergraduate GPA of 3.00 or higher*
